Happy Birthday ~ Our Chicks Turn ONE!!!
Can you believe Bailey, Beau and Brook are turning one year old?! We made it, we survived...us and them!!! With so much going on in our normal day to day, us going on a few summer road trips, and just life with four kids, me planning a one year old birthday party for our triplets was about the last thing I even wanted to do. So in the grand scheme of things, everything needed to be simpler, easier and scaled back, right? (famous last words!) I enlisted the help of my event planning in-laws and family and got the job done.
With being short on time, I needed to approach things differently. This is the first time I sent out invitations electronically and through making a Facebook event, which saved me a lot of time and money. Also, we chose not to have the party at our home. After having three of Kanons parties at home, I realized it was easier NOT to throw the party at our house. By having it somewhere else, we were able to provide more space to move around in, plus we were able to get a big bouncy house!! Who doesn't love a bouncy house?
A cousin who lives approximately an hour away from us graciously agreed we could have the party at their house. They have a beautiful home, yard, and a full court outdoor basketball court which occupied some of the older guests. I was able to cross that off of my list. The distance from our home and the hour drive posed some challenges but in the long run it was well worth it. Unfortunately it seems that a few people did slip through the cracks and somehow got over looked in getting invited (So Sorry) thankfully, there will be many more parties to come.
OK, now the details. We decided on a baby chick/farmhouse/backyard BBQ theme. Again, this was an attempt at making things easy but still held a level of satisfaction for the "creative" in me! Farmhouse translates into red and white gingham and I also added yellow gingham to break it up a bit. The girls started in a white Carters and Carters denim diaper cover from another outfit LOL. Kanon and cousins were the farmers in their overalls. The girls then changed into Carters Yellow Carter frocks for their Happy Birthday. This time they also wore their Mooshu Trainer shoes, which have a removable bow they can use in their hair... and the shoes also squeak! So very special and we love them.
Where in years past I'd probably print things out for details and signs, I was able to go to Michael's to get most of the supplies and do it myself. The flag banners, sticker letters and bakers twine, for the signs and decorations for the high chairs...a little hot glue later, and these were the results!
We also were so lucky and received these amazing silhouettes from a company owned by another Triplet Mom, 3daughtersdesignshop.etsy.com (find her on etsy & IG) The process was super easy and so worth the wait! She even added a yellow bow for the girls to coordinate with the party theme. These are something we will have forever. I bought the red double matte and frames from Michael's too. Instead of magnets, which was my first option for the adult favors, I went to Staples and had them print one sided postcards with the girls picture for guests to take home.
Got a cute 3D Barn from Shindigz.com, that you can personalize on both sides and had cut outs for the windows and barn doors. It was a great prop for pics and the smaller children loved playing in it.
Ballons, we had plenty of balloons, whats a party without balloons! Food was easy, the family brought sides and salads. Bryant manned the grill and cooked hot dogs, hamburgers, sausage, chicken and turkey burgers as requested. Nothing's worse than having food that has sat for hours because some one didn't want to man the grill! The goodie bags had glow sticks, lolly pops, fruit snacks and chips.
The dessert table had everything from brownie bites, cupcakes, rice crispy treats (haystacks), cookies, chocolate covered pretzel rods & oreos and nutty buddys all in the theme. We went with cup cakes instead of cake to eliminate cutting, extra plates, and the added mess, and it all worked out. Some executive decisions needed to be made at the end of the day but everything was executed well and people enjoyed themselves.
I made a snapchat filter, which was fun for the Snap chatters and had Ritas water ice in lemon flavor so we didn't make too much of a mess with Cherry. We asked that the guests give gift cards, instead of any gifts just to help us save on storage which is already becoming quite an issue at our house. I feel like it made things a lot easier for everyone. The girls hung in there as long as they possibly could and were troopers until the end! A successfully event under our belts! On to next year, LOL.
